alive

sometimes i am in a place
no one else can see
and it is easy to go along
with what's around
so much easier
than trying to get someone to understand
how do i keep this alive
have i got the courage
have i got the love

the bravado is there
behind the little girl
is scared
scared of what she knows
and
what she feels no one will see
and missed out
are the words
she cannot say

but what's important at all costs
is keeping this alive
this spirit
and this heart
this wonder and this light
even if it means
the easy road is not
the one i have to take
alone and walking forward
in the dark
but still awake
