it is clear
by the light of the summer's end
that the leaves will softly fall
the night closes in earlier still
and the windows in the house
wear the mist
from the change in temperature
it is clear
by the lipstick red rose hips
and the hay trucks loaded down
how the sheep huddle closer than they did
a few weeks ago
just to stay warm
it is clear we are closer
to the morning frost
at the moment there's only a fog
but it won't be long
til it lifts off the ground
ringing trees in the early hours
the birds sing a shorter song
the squirrels run and gather
all day long
as the branches shed their yearly growth
i await the silver wand
it is clear
that autumn is slipping in
slipping through my fingers
slipping through my hair
it is clear
another year
is moving on
and i am
holding the sun
