the dream

i dreamt your sister drove you here
though you don't have a sister
it was a very narrow street

and when you came in and saw me there
you
disappointed went away
just went next door
to hide from me

i went out the front
and saw your car
still parked there
though i don't know
what kind of car you have

then someone on the street
came up and asked me
for the 10 quid
i had borrowed several years ago
though i never did
and she got mad
when i told her i didn't
have it

i woke up wondering what it all meant
the non- existent sister
the unknown car
the running next door
the borrowing that never was
the dream
was just
a dream
of course
