crimson
burnt gold
auburn brown
under my feet
fallen down
imprinting on the cement
wet and crushed
stems and veins
ironed in between waxed paper
held up to the light
you can see
the colour of the leaves
like a stained glass window
made of opaque paper
and the fallen
fate of trees
maple
ash
sumac
dogwood
larch
and beech
purple
chocolate brown
the only green
is on the fir
and pine
the colour of the leaves
has come around
